Daniel J. BRENTS married Rutha E. MANES Jan. 9, 1870, in Newton County, Missouri. Children: Eva (m. William MORROW), Georgia (m. Frank PAYNE), Lula Catherine (m Jacob Columbus HOWERTON), Daniel Hillman BRENTS. The family moved to Payne Co., Oklahoma, in a land rush about 1890 and had a farm there. Looking for anyone who knows of a Loyd LLoyd SMITH Parents Dorsey or Dorcy McClellan(d) and Loua Smith. I don't have much on him but was told he was last living in Neosho or Joplin Missouri. I think he was born sometime after 1931 and I don't know if he took the McClellan(d) Name. I would really like to find him as he may be able to give me info on the McClellan(d)'s. I am looking for information on Alfred Lorenzo YATES and Laura Belle REAGAN, who were married in Neosho in august of 1900. various members of their family also show up on the 1900 census in Neosho and Newtonia. Alfred's father was Garland Herst YATES and his mother was Salina WILSON or MCINTYRE. Laura's parents were Thomas REAGAN and Harriet Mills ROBERTS. The REAGAN's lived in Swain County, North Carolina before moving to Missouri. The Yates were originally from Floyd County, Kentucky but lived for an unknown period of time in Arkansas before moving to Newton County. Laura and Alfred's first three sons were born in Neosho. The family later moved to Muskogee County, Oklahoma, where they lived for an unknown period of time before moving to San Bernardino County, California. Salina is believed to have died in San Diego, her husband in Colton, California. Laura and Alfred are also buried in Colton, California.

I am looking for any information on Henry T. Seitz and his wife Johanna. Henry must have died between 1900 and 1910. His daughter, Anna Van Eaton lived in Neosho, Newton county, Missouri on about 1913 and she told her sister in Iowa that their father's grave had sunk in and needed to be filled in. In her letter, she refered to "out there" when talking about the grave. Henry and Johanna were both born in Germany. Henry in 1815 and Johanna in 1823.

 James Henry ELAM died in 1873 in Newton County and is buried there. I know nothing further about his children.

 William T. ELAM, brother to James Henry ELAM, was born in 1844 in Fayette, Illinois. He married Lydia Elvira CHAMP, 18 Sept. 1864 in Greene, Missouri. Their children were:

Mrs. Clarissa Snodgrass of Newton County died December 19,1884 in Joplin,MO. She was "a consistant member of the South Methodist for 45 years" whether this church is in Joplin or Newton County I don't know. 

She was married to Lirkin (Larkin) Snodgrass 1822-1904. They had 3 sons and 3 daughters. Sarah-Mrs. Julius Fischer, Francis-Mrs.Charles Payn Gallienne. This is all the info about her I have. I don't know her maiden name. Any help is welcome.

I'm searching for some lost soul that landed in Newton County. Jessie Emiline MCNEELY b 9-1-1879 m Robert Taylor HARRIS b 3-15-1878. Jessie's parents were Willian Lance MCNEELY b 3-25-1848 and Lucreasie TRENT b 2-19-1851. Lucreasie may have lived in a Polish settlement north of Shoal Creek, outside Granby. I believe she had a brother named Jessie. William Lance MCNEELY may have came to MO by way of Canada. I am searching for family of Lida R. CAUDLE THOMAS BARRON (spelling?). Lida married my father James Addison THOMAS JR. in the 1920's in Ripley Co. MO, Doniphan. Lida and James had a daughter Dolores Roseman THOMAS on 22 Oct. 1928. Sometime between 1931 and 1936, this family moved to the Joplin area They divorced there and James moved to Wichita where he remarried and had a family of 5 children. I need to contact Dolores if possible or family of Lida who remarried a man named Barron. Lida died in 1971 or 72 and there is no family contact. I'm looking for descendants of Thomas King Hooper, b. 20 Oct 1805. His son Jacob, my 2nd great grandfather married Catherine Marie Spears b. 1850 in Newton Co., MO. Catherine's parents were John & Luvina Spurgeon Spears aka Jock and Jenny Spears. I do know that between 1860 and 1880 Hoopers, Spears, and Spurgeons lived in Newton County. Oral history has it that the Hoopers and Spears were close friends of Belle Starr. The Coppenbargers of Newton County also married into the Hooper family, Mary Elizabeth Hooper, brother of Thomas King Hooper married a Jacob Coppenbarger in the 1820's. Mary d. 25 Dec 1880 and is buried in Newton Co. Also, a long shot, I'm looking for the family of a Eli and Pearl Thompson. Pearl married Jacob's son John my great grandfather. Please help!

My maternal great grandmother,Rose Ellen Smith Nichols, remarried after the death of my great grandfather, Saulsbury Nichols. They were the parents of Fannie Virginia Nichols who was born in Seneca ,Newton County, Mo. in 1889. Looking for information on John Wesley WALLACE(1861-1949) Second wife was Lula M. (1874-1957) My best information is that they lived south of Joplin. He ran a sorghum mill at one time. They had 9 children plus others from a second marriage. I am most interested in learning his parents' names/dates etc. with an eye toward learning when this WALLACE family moved into the area. Great grand-father supposedly died in Neosho, Missouri, sometime after the Civil War.  He and two sons came and opened up a blacksmith/butcher shop (unk which or maybe both)  Some catastrophe (fire?) occurred and the sons decided to return to Illinois.  Father WILLIAM RHYNES  died before he could return..  He is supposed to be buried there.  Could anyone help me?  Dates are probably 1870-1885.

GOLDEN:  I am looking for Cornelia Golden Sage.  She was from the Neosho area and moved to Washburn to teach in the mid 1930's.  She married Russell Sage of Washburn but they were divorced after WW2.  I have been unable to locate any records about the divorce or what became of her. Looking for any information on a David FULTON and family that lived in Neosho, Newton County, MO. He lived in Neosho around 1860's. Family history indicates he was in the Civil War from Neosho and was poisoned as a prisoner. His wife died a year later of grief.  A son James Louis FULTON has born 1/25/1862.  I understand he may have been a Capt. for the Union (??).  This is unconfirmed. Where he or his wife (Name unknown)is buried is unknown.  Who took care of James is also unknown. James later lived and died in Crawford County, MO. I would appreciate any help and any information on this family and David's Civil War unit.

I'm trying to find a record of the death of Parmelia Jouett McGinnis. She was the wife of William P. McGinnis. The family is shown on the 1850 census in Neosho township. She had a child Lula born in 1858 but in 1870 William is shown with the children in Texas without Parmelia. I would be interested in any information on her or the family. Parmelia and William were married in Grainger Co. Tennessee in 1838 and their first child was born there in 1838 but the others were born in Missouri between 1840 and 1858. At least one was born in Joplin so they were in the area around Joplin and Neosho.

I am searching for any information on John R & Elizabeth (BRYANT) HUTTON. They lived in Newton Co in the 1880 & 1900 census. For a few years after that they lived in the states of Oregon & Washington. By 1925 they had returned to Newton Co where Elizabeth died, she is buried in the Hornet Cemetery. One of their daughters, Jessie Bell married William Henry LEA in 1897. They remained in Newton Co their entire life. If someone is working on GRAHAM in Newton County and knows anything about Orange GRAHAM, I'd be interested in trading information. Orange married Matilda RUTLEDGE. Also (connected to him?) next to Matilda GRAHAM on the 1870 Scott County, AR census was a Sarah GRAHAM with two children (one was 21 year old John W. GRAHAM).
